With roots in the traditional dances of France’s diverse regions, bal folk includes easy dances from all over the country - and a few imports as well! In a series of three monthly events, each night begins with a workshop focused on a particular region followed by a bal with live music. Bob Walser leads the dances and joins Dan Newton, The BreTones (including Laura MacKenzie, Tom Klein) and others in providing the music. For March 28th, the folk soirée moves to Brittany. Be enchanted by Brittany’s dance traditions and let the Celtic music charm your soul! Registration is appreciated - $10 online or at the door.

Amy Shaw and Laura MacKenzie (the duo Twinflower) will present a program of traditional Swedish music on duo wooden flutes. Chris Bashor joins Twinflower on guitar. Laura and Amy studied the traditions and music of Sweden on a fellowship grant from the American-Scandinavian Foundation in June 2023, studying with two master flute players who are reviving the historic tradition of Swedish music on wooden flutes.
